A team is only as strong as the leaders who build them up and empower them to reach new heights. Lucky for us, our team has Terry Westfahl in our corner. Get to know Terry, and learn how she uses her HR superpowers to help others fly.
Q: How would you describe your role at CID?
A: I am the Director of Human Resources and my primary goal is to align our
people, HR practices, and overall business objectives. I’m dedicated to creating a workplace where employees feel included, thrive, and are able to simultaneously enhance the company’s bottom line. As an HR professional, it’s important that you be able to drive positive change, enhance productivity, and elevate the organization’s success.
[Editor’s Note: Can confirm. Terry does all of these things!]
Q: What is something that you wish everyone knew about your role?
A: I consider my work to be an extension of who I am. My purpose and passion in life is to boost others up and believe in them until they are confident enough to believe in themselves. We all have that thing that holds us down or back, and understanding that everyone has that thing helps others to understand they aren’t broken; that it’s just a normal part of the human experience.
Q: What aspects of our work and/or our culture do you enjoy the most?
A: We’re just an amazing group of highly skilled people who support each other in every possible way. I love that when I describe our culture to a potential candidate and then have a check-in three months after they've been hired, they start to say they had a hard time believing that we had as great a culture as I described, but we actually do.
Q: What would you tell someone who is interested in joining our team?
A: It truly is the best company to work for…ever! I’ve been in HR for over 30 years and have always chosen to work for companies that have an employee focus, so I’ve worked at some great companies. However, none of them can compare to what we have at CID. It’s hard to describe, but it’s real and special and I’m so happy to be part of this exceptional group of humans.
Q: What are some talents, hobbies, skills, special abilities, and the like that you use outside of the
office?
A: I consider myself to be a courageous chicken, so the universe was laughing when it paired me with a super daredevil husband. I’ve parachuted, scuba dived, white water rafted, zip lined, downhill skied, rode a horse on the beach in Grand Caymans — to name just a few — but I’m happiest at home playing with my dog Pepsi and spending time with my husband.
Q: What’s something that’s been bringing you joy lately?
A: I love music, dancing, and concerts. I also love to go to the dog park and enjoy spending as much time as possible with the children in my extended family. I’m an avid reader and I love to work in my side gig where I get to help people develop their mind mastery so they can access confidence on demand.
Q: Who do you draw inspiration from? Do you have any professional mentors or personal heroes you’d like to shout out?
A: I never really had the luxury of having a professional mentor, but in this late stage of my career I am finding some at CID. Every member of our executive team as well as our directors including Jim Taugher, Scott Hill, Heather Vaughn, Dylan Taugher, Wes Lamb, Rachel Weitendorf, and Steve Zobrist have taught me so much and have provided the guidance and patience that have supported my integration into this team over the past 2-plus years.
And, of course, my Dad, my husband, my brother-in-law Bob, and last but not least Donald Driver. Because, well, he’s Donald Driver!
Q: Last but certainly not least: what is a mantra, motto, catchphrase, or personal code that motivates and inspires you?
A: “Resistance is futile.”
This has a two-fold meaning for me. One: if I make up my mind about something, it’s going to happen…no matter what tries to get in my way.
And two: accepting, allowing, and embracing can serve you in ways that resisting, judging, and forcing just can’t
